" I have a dream that my four little children will one
day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of
their skin but by the content of their character."
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. August 28, 1963
The
words of Dr. King still echo in our own community as we struggle to
achieve the way of life that he envisioned for us, where skin color is no
longer a barrier to achieving one's dream. It is by the content of our
character that we, the people of Memphis, must reach out and help each
other to heal the pain we see and feel in so many of our neighborhoods.
The 'heart and soul' of our city is in the balance......without
healing, the future seems shadowy for our city and our children.
Please
join us on Sunday, April 13th for 'Healing of the Races' ...one day
set aside to begin a conversation of healing in our wounded city. The Rev. Dr. James Forbes of New York City and the Rev. Dr. C.T. Vivian of
Atlanta along with concerned community leaders, will assist us as we
come together as a community of character to remember the past and look
to the future. A future where a ‘Healing of the Races’ will become, not only a dream, but a reality.
